The retirement of Older Telecom professionals continue

 As technology changes, we have not seen younger Americans enter the telecom industry in the numbers needed to sustain the millions of business phone systems deployed in offices.  This is one major driving factor and the acceleration of the move to Cloud Phone Systems.

Studies as well as we have found , statistically significant increases in the retired share following the onset of the pandemic. While these increases were greater for those 65 and older, I also find trend breaks in the retired share for subgroups in the 55-64 year-old rang. In the telecommunications industry this is simply more pronouced due to the older technicians maintained the older equipment.  Given organizations held onto very old equipment this collission of looming unsupportability gains signficant speed.  

Generally we found those techs who worked on brands like: Nortel, Comdial, Vodavi, Lucent, Toshiba Phones, Panasonic Phones, and other legacy brands experieinced the greatest levels of retirement of experienced technicians.

The fact of the matter once an unsupportable phone system breaks there really is no other option but to upgrade.  The changes in telecom equipment can be both good and bad for these teams.   As older officer workers are use to a way of functing and new equipment generally is considered "clunky to them" they can either use a modified modern system that is designed to act like an older system or choose to jump to a fully modern phone system with features such as: Team Chat, Conferencing, Remote Worker features, and advanced call flow.    Industry experts struggle with how to help these folks understand they have little choice.
